Question 1:  Why should I use the Fly Away
® Calf Jacket?
Calves can grow up to 54% bigger in the first 21-28 days by converting their energy into growth rather than into keeping warm. The calves will also develop more internal insulation. "The insulated coat worn by calves housed at -30 degrees to -18 degrees C provided a 52% increase in whole animal insulation". (Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research, 1989; 53: 275-278.)

Question 2: When should I use the Fly Away® Calf Jacket and how long do I keep it on?

Fly Away® Calf Jackets are for use on newborn calves and are effective for the first 21-28 days.

Question 3: How should I clean the Fly Away® Calf Jacket?

The Fly Away
® Calf Jacket is machine washable in cold water with a mild detergent and either line dry or tumble dry on a low or cool setting.  DO NOT attempt to dry the calf jacket on a direct heat source. This will cause the material to scar and will not be covered under the warranty.

Question 4: Should I wash the Fly Away® Calf Jacket after every calf?

Yes. In the age of Bio-security, the Fly Away® Calf Jacket not only protects the calf that wears it but the ability to wash the jacket prevents cross-contamination between all the calves.

Question 5: Are the Fly Away® Calf Jackets waterproof?

The Fly Away® Calf Jacket is water-resistant not waterproof. The outer shell is made of 500 Denier Cordura® nylon with 3/4 ounce Urethane backer, which makes it water resistant. The insulation is 150 gram 3M Thinsulate™ insulation. Damp bedding, rain and snow will not become a factor to the calf wearing the Fly Away® Calf Jackets.

Question 6: Why is 3M Thinsulate Thermal Insulation used as the insulator instead of a less expensive hollow fill or open cell foam type?

3M Thinsulate™ Thermal Insulation provides superior thermal capabilities compared to other types of insulation and will withstand the rigors or washing machine agitation cycles much better. Thinsulate™ Insulation only retains 1% moisture, therefore, the calf dries much quicker, retains its thermal insulation and the jacket remains lightweight and easy to use (both for the calf and the handler).

Question 7: Is the Fly Away® Calf Jacket only for extreme cold climates?

No. Because the Fly Away® Calf Jacket traps a layer of the calves own air around itself, if will not cause the calf to overheat and will provide a barrier for damp, rainy conditions and can be used effectively up to 40 degrees F. A perfect protectant where and when temperatures fluctuate during the spring and fall.

Question 8: How long will my Fly Away® Calf Jacket last?

Fly Away® AgriProducts, Inc. has a two-year warranty on the calf jacket and will either repair or replace the jacket within two years of purchase (conditions do apply). The Fly Away® Calf Jacket can last for many years depending on the wear and overall care of the jacket.

Question 9: Where are the Fly Away® Calf Jackets made?

Fly Away® Calf Jackets are made by Fly Away® AgriProducts, Inc. in Blue Earth, Minnesota.  Made in the U.S.A.
